Best Event Photography of the Year

Winner

‘Portrait of a flyman at Hackney Empire’ by Miles Willis

Judges said: ‘There’s nothing posed about that. This is a man who’s waiting for the call. The colour behind his head perfectly frames his face.’

Runner Up

Highly Commended

‘Pride’ by Dave Bird

Judges said: ‘The photo beautifully illustrates the way cultural events draw people together and transcend society. It captures the true essence and joy of Pride.’

‘The Fred Whitton Challenge’ by Steve Fleming

Judges said: ‘Stunning Yorkshire Dales and dramatic lighting perfectly capture the gruelling but beautiful Fred Whitton race. The length of the challenge is immediately obvious, with no start or finish in sight and with the sun leaving shadows on the wet road, the Dales’ ability to deliver four seasons in one day is evident.’
